Can you recommend a book that influenced you or changed your mind about something? Important essay!!! Help??

I have about 10 days to read a book and write a well-organized essay on how I was influenced by the book or how it changed my mind about something.

It can be either fiction or non-fiction.

It can't be something simple like %26quot;never give up%26quot; because I already knew that. It must be a decent thing that changed my mind or influenced me.

I'm in 8th grade and this essay is a major part of my grade AND it may count towards points to which high school I go to!!!

Please recommend any good books that have a easy theme to pick out. I need something do-able in 10 days, to read the book AND write the essay.

Websites on help with the book would be great. If you could possibly tell me the theme that would help too. I am a good reader but have other work each night too. A good book with a good theme but readable.

PLEASE HELP!!! Anything is greatly appreciated!

The Valley of the Dolls.

An Unquiet Mind changed my mind about mental diseases. It's a great book and I read it in about 2 days.
although it's pretty long, so i'm not sure about your time constraints, %26quot;my sister's keeper%26quot; by jodi picoult raises a lot of interesting questions and i think had a lot of influence over my thoughts when i read it.

of course you can read %26quot;slaughterhouse five%26quot; by kurt vonnegut and think about how war has/hasn't changed our country, etc. and if you see patterns from the book to this war on terror. also, it's a pretty quick read, it only took me a day to finish.

good luck.
%26quot;The Power of One%26quot; by Bryce Courtenay, influenced my view on race and equality.
%26quot;The Alchemist%26quot; by Paulo Coelho

Thin book, easy to read, the %26quot;lessons%26quot; are layed out for you. Take notes while you read (including page numbers) so that your paper will go smoothly
its definitely got to be the Lance Armstrong book. %26quot;ITS NOT ABOUT THE BIKE%26quot;.. that book was inspiring..

Its not too fat, so ud b able 2 read it easily in 2-3 days. plus its a very easy going casually written book.

Brief review:

People around the world have found inspiration in the story of Lance Armstrong--a world-class athlete nearly struck down by cancer, only to recover and win the Tour de France, the multiday bicycle race famous for its grueling intensity. Armstrong is a thoroughgoing Texan jock, and the changes brought to his life by his illness are startling and powerful, but he's just not interested in wearing a hero suit. While his vocabulary is a bit on the he-man side (highest compliment to his wife: %26quot;she's a stud%26quot;), his actions will melt the most hard-bitten souls: a cancer foundation and benefit bike ride, his astonishing commitment to training that got him past countless hurdles, loyalty to the people and corporations that never gave up on him. There's serious medical detail here, which may not be for the faint of heart; from chemo to surgical procedures to his wife's in vitro fertilization, you won't be spared a single x-ray, IV drip, or unfortunate side effect. Athletes and coaches everywhere will benefit from the same extraordinary detail provided about his training sessions--every aching tendon, every rainy afternoon, and every small triumph during his long recovery is here in living color. It's Not About the Bike is the perfect title for this book about life, death, illness, family, setbacks, and triumphs, but not especially about the bike
The Giver by Lois Lowry would be an interesting choice. It's about individual freedom vs. totalitarianism and the power of the human mind. It really is a fascinating read and the themes are not at all simple...at least that is my humble opinion. It can be read, in some areas, with many different interpretations. Also the book is not long and it is recommended for students in 7th and 8th grade. This will give you an excellent overview (with spoilers though)
