How long do you keep a laptop?

I have had my iBook G4 (it was brand new) since right before 6th grade. I am graduating from 8th grade in a month and a half. I was wondering how often people change laptops. I know people who don't have Macs change them more often than people who do have Macs. I want another new one right before I leave for college, too. Do you think I should get one right before high school and use it through high school, and then get a new one before college, or do you think I should keep this one throughout high school? Technology is always changing, and I don't know if I could wait until I graduated from college to buy a new laptop...

It would be helpful if you told me how often you changed your iPods too! I have got my iPod video at Christmas 2006, should I get a new one at Christmas 2008, or is that too soon?

Technology changes fast so it would be a good idea to get a new notebook every 3-5 years. However, its not a good idea to try and keep up with the latest technology because then you would be spending thousands of extra dollars. Besides when a new piece of technology comes out it usually has some problems that aren't ironed out until at least 6 months after its initial release.

For web surfing and basic things, as long as it will run as Hard drives are replaceable(the weakest point) For Gaming well that is a different story as Laptops become outdated quickly as technology move so fast in the gaming world, todays hot gaming laptop will be tomorrows dinosaur.
Hello ,

PCs are always changing a little from year to year , however the new PCs in the last 2-3 years have a Duo processor which keeps the PC running nice and smooth . Fast to . If the Warentees are expired and the PC has Hard drive and screen issues etc. , you have to pay to repair . Any repair can take about a 20 day turn around . If you have a PC that has a Duo Processor , keep it for now . If you like the PC ,, keep it . As far as a PC for College , I believe you are safe to put that concern to the back burrner . You have about 4 years your would be using your current PC .... which makes the PC 6 years old by then . Would not hurt to buy a new PC now or in about 1 year from now .. unless your PC has only a single processor . By now you are probably doing well with the PC and want to multitask and browse fast .... then you will need a PC with a Duo Processor .
PC's 2-4 years

Mac's 3-5 years
keep your laptop for as long as possible. laptops ain't cheap. i got mine for Christmas last year its a dell inspiron 1501. it is fully warrantied until i graduate high school. try to buy a carry case for protection so it stays in good shape.
keep your laptop as long as you want to and it does what you want. I would switch before college but probably not before as long as it keeps up with what you want to do. and why change your iPod? if you like it go with it
Some people do not buy another laptop every time a new platform comes out.

Some buy a new one every time something new comes out, trying to keep up with the latest computing change.

As long as your iBook works for you,you don't need to run out and buy a new laptop.

You could wait until H.S. and get the most up to date laptop available and use it through college.

How often you change your computers and iPods is up to you,It's obsolete almost as soon as it hits the market now days.
Someone seems a little spoiled. It's only 2 years old my goodness!!! I would get a new one for college because the one you have will probably be really slow and have lots of files on it, but you should feel lucky to have your own laptop at your age. And about your iPod. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! You shouldnt keep changing your iPod just because there is a newer. They're just going to keep coming out with a new one every year. It's a money making scheme. It seems like someone needs to learn the value of a dollar. Your parents work hard for the money to buy you those expensive things. You shouldn't be complaining.
